Temple Location:Arulmigu Mariamman Temple is located at Irukkangudi about 8 km East of Sathur on Thiruchendur Highway via Vilathikulam from Trichy, Madurai and Virudhunagar. On Special Occasions timings might differ. Temple Timings:Morning Timings : 06:00 AM to 01:00 PM Realizing their wishes, devotees perform abishek and aaradhanas to Amman. Those suffering from impaired vision, stomach pain and other troubles, small pox, pain in hands and legs pray to Mari Amman for relief. Devotees worship all these deities and Mariamman in order. Kathavarayan and Vairavamurthi are in the east. Pechi Amman and Muppidari Amman are in separate shrines on the northwest. On the west are Vazha Vandha Amman and Rakachi Amman. Sri Nandeeswara and flag post-Kodimaram are in a line. The Artha Mandap and Maha Mandap are close to the sanctum. The sanctum sanctorum is under a beautiful vimana. Since then, She is the deity for the villagers taking care of their welfare. The villagers found the idol of Mother Amman, built the temple and are doing the pujas. She herself was influenced by the power of Goddess and exclaimed that Amman was under the ground where the basket was placed and ordered them to take Her out and build a temple. A priest – Poosari – woman filled her basket with the cow dung she gathered and was prepared to go home with the basket but could not lift it alone. This happened 300 years ago between Arjuna and Vaiparu rivers. River Vaipparu formed by Rama and river Arjuna formed by Arjuna are the Holy water points of this temple.Ĭooking Hall In Front Of Mariamman Temple It flows through Karivalam Vantha Nallur, Sathur and Kollappati and reaches Irrukkangudi where it mixes with Arjuna river and drains into sea via Muthalapuram and Viathikulam. As it was formed form Vaippu(Treasure) it came to be known as Vaipparu. Lord Rama broke the pot with his arrow and formed a river. After searching vainly for water, Lord Rama was told about the pot containig sacred rivers buried by Sage Agasthiyar. River Vaipparu flows in the Southern part of this temple. The river formed as a result came to be known as Arjuna river. According to “Thiruthankal Temple Lore” once upon a time when Pancha Pandavas came here, Arjuna prayed to Goddess Ganga and split the earth with 'Varunakanai'(arrow) forming a river. River Arjuna flowing in the Northern part of this temple originates at Mahalinga hills known as Vathira Iruppu hills in the west. As two Ganges meet here it got its name Irukkangudi. This temple is located between the two rivers Vaipparu and Arjuna. Arjuna prayed to Mother Ganga and pierced the earth with his arrow from where sprang the Arjuna river. During their forest life, Pandavas were in this region, they came to the foot of this hill for a bath. Arjuna springs from the Mahalinga Hills in Vatrairuppu. The devotee thus gets the benefit of bathing in two Gangas. Hence, Amman is praised as Irukkankudi – between rivers – Mari Amman. The darshan of Amman is always pleasant to their mind and soul. The belief among the devotees here that Aadi means Amman and Amman means Aadi and therefore Aadi Friday and Amman Friday make no difference to them.
